It followed a spate of mysterious tourist deaths on the Caribbean island, with Wallace the fourth in the past two months. Wallace, 67, became severely ill in April after drinking scotch from the minibar in his room at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino resort in Punta Cana. Wallace was in DR to attend his stepson's wedding. Arnold said her uncle was in good health and had just gone skiing in Lake Tahoe a month prior.

Five days later, Maryland couple Edward Nathaniel Holmes, 63 and Cynthia Day, 49, were found unresponsive in their hotel room at the same resort.

On May 25, 41-year-old Miranda Schaup-Werner from Pennysylvania died in her room at Grand Bahia Principe Hotel La Romana in Punta Cana.

"He started feeling very sick, he had blood in his urine and stool right afterward", she said. The FBI has joined with local authorities to try to get to the bottom of the deaths.

She said a hotel doctor had checked Mr Wallace, then decided on April 13 he needed to be hospitalised.

Cora Smith - who, with her hubby Jay, runs the Instagram account The_GreatEscape.Blog that has 26,000 followers - said she felt compelled to paint a rosy picture online of their three-month jaunt to the DR in 2018. 'We don't want this to happen to anyone else'. Law enforcement said the couple died of the same illness that led to Wallace's and Schaup-Werner's deaths. Out of respect for the family during this hard time, we do not have additional information to provide.
