Trump Slams NASA: Focus on Mars, Not Moon

US President Donald Trump tweeted on Friday that NASA should stop talking about going back to the Moon, which caused confusion since his administration aims to restart Moon landings by 2024.

At least that's what he meant to say.

But hours after Trump's tweet, Bridenstine tweeted from his own verified account, saying "As @POTUS said, @NASA is using the Moon to send humans to Mars!" Internet users commented on the tweet explaining to the President how Mars and Moon are different from each other and the former can not be a part of the later.

However, in May, Trump had said that they are restoring NASA to greatness and going back to Moon before Mars. NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine has said NASA's other missions won't be affected, but a top NASA official said in meetings this week that they might.

While Trump was most likely tweeting in response to the Fox segment, the clumsy phrasing of his tweet still prompted copious jokes and memes from the Twitterverse.

CNN's Brian Stelter noted Trump has been focused on going back to the moon for some time.
