Bose is stuffing the Google Assistant into its line of smart speakers

By the way, if you're not comfortable coughing up $400 for the Bose Home Speaker 500, $550 for the Bose Soundbar 500, or $800 for the Soundbar 700, a smaller and slightly more affordable Bose Home Speaker 300 with built-in Google Assistant support out the box is coming "later this summer". As with other Google Assistant powered devices all functions are activated by simply saying, "Hey Google".

Starting today, Bose is bringing the Google Assistant to its line of smart speakers and soundbars. That means the ability to ask for playlists, songs, artist radio stations, and more, yes, but also controlling smart home devices, accessing the calendar and tasks, and of course getting answers to trivia questions.

More and more speakers are getting voice control AI as music tech gets interactive and Bose are the latest to get in on the trend. The update is being released today for existing Bose models, including both standalone smart speakers and the company's range of connected soundbars too. Once it is installed, you'll find the setting to switch to Google Assistant under the Voice Settings in the Bose Music App.

It's a nice gesture from Bose and one that indicates the company believes in the longevity of its products and cares about how full they might make landfills long-term.

The Bose Home Speaker 300 was just recently announced and is the brand's smallest smart speaker yet. It'll arrive in stores on June 20, Bose says. These were already compatible with Amazon's rival talkative AI companion, Alexa.
