The latest delay gives prosecutors more time to decide whether to charge McKinney as an adult. Following their first court appearance on May 7, 18th Judicial District Attorney George Brauchler could not confirm how the suspects knew each other or what level of a relationship they had.

Eucker followed up with a letter to parents in February, disputing numerous anonymous parent's claims.

The district informed police of the allegations, it said. Specifically, the anonymous parent expressed concerns about bullying and violence.

"He was unbelievable", said Cecilia Bedard, 19, who knew Castillo since elementary school.

Winsor did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Vivaan Kalura, 12, was in math class when he and his classmates heard screaming and thudding. "They completely and utterly failed in a matter of half a minute", he said of the attackers.

They said at least one of the suspects was involved in legal and illegal drug use and had been in therapy.

The World Health Organization classified a person claiming to be a gender different from the one they were born as a mental illness until June 2018.

Vivaan said he is still scared by Tuesday's events.
