It would be interesting to see whether this new retail strategy from Xiaomi will be successful in India, where most of the people believe in experiencing the products from the retailers rather than a vending machine.

The new Xiaomi Mi Express Kiosks utilise a completely human-less interface and purchasing a Xiaomi smartphone or accessory from these Mi Express Kiosks is as easy as purchasing a cold drink. They can now buy their favourite smartphone just like you buy chips and coke from a vending machine. It has a camera on the top which is actually a Mijia Smart Camera to capture the faces of those who make purchases. They make it easy for the consumers to buy products and are created to accept all forms of payments including credit cards, debit cards, cash and UPI. There is a large touch display on the right for operating the machine.

The first kiosk has already been inaugurated at Manyata Tech Park in Bengaluru. The kiosk will also have a slot to print the billing receipts.

While setting up stores or partnering with retailers might be an expensive option, setting up Mi Express Kiosks could help Xiaomi expand its presence at a fraction of the cost. Gradually, the same Express Kiosks will be made available to different cities as per its demands. The Mi Express Kiosks can be found across metro cities in public areas with greater footfall such as tech parks, metro stations, airports, and shopping malls. Choose the phone you want, select, and wait for it to drop.
