A 'Pink moon' will light up the sky this Good Friday

The "pink moon" will reach its peak on Friday morning at 7:12 a.m. ET, according to the Almanac, but the best view of the moon will be on Thursday night.

However, it has been reported that the moon will not turn pink tonight as in previous years - but may take on a slightly reddish hue.

The name Pink Moon comes from the pink phlox flowers that are in bloom this time of year.

The rules date from the First Council of Nicaea in 325BC, with the council deciding that the moon would help pilgrims travel for Easter.

April's full moon will be visible on Friday.

Keen stargazers and photographers will not be able to see the April Pink Moon until after 8.05pm BST (7.05pm UTC) when it reveal itself over the horizon.
