NY state has been a battleground for concurrent measles outbreaks in Brooklyn and Queens as well as in Rockland County.

Israeli health officials issued an alert earlier this month about a measles patient who had traveled on El Al Flight 2 on March 26 and 27 from NY to Tel Aviv. They typically can surface up to 14 days after exposure, with a rash usually appearing on the face after the early symptoms and spreading to the rest of the body, health officials said.

He said the best way to prevent getting the measles is to get vaccinated. The WHO says these outbreaks are 'causing many deaths, ' with most of the victims being young children.

US public health experts have said that one dose of the MMR vaccine is about 93 percent effective at preventing measles, an extremely contagious virus that can have serious consequences - pneumonia, hearing loss, brain damage and death.

"What we don't want is someone potentially with measles in the emergency room or doctor's office with all of those other people who we don't know if they've been fully immunized", Anderson said.

Measles is making a resurgence in Israel due primarily to parents not inoculating their children. From March 2018 to January, more than 3,400 people have been infected with measles in Israel, the Health Ministry said.

In addition to Maryland, cases have been reported in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Texas and Washington, according to the CDC.

The United States also has been battling such outbreaks. The attendant was breathing through a respirator, reported The Times of Israel.

Prior to these latest infections, no cases of measles had been reported in Iowa since 2011.
