Just 13 hours after it was posted, the tragic fundraiser page for Landen Hoffmann of Woodbury Minn. had logged donations from more than 9,000 well-wishers. There was blood; the boy was not moving.

Witnesses say a woman at the mall was screaming hysterically after the child was thrown.

Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts says at least one person tried to stop Aranda as he fled. "Immediately, my thoughts were: how can something like this happen?"

"'Very caring, very family-focused, deeply spiritual, very compassionate, extremely generous of their time, their talent and their resource", he said of the boy's family. Police are not releasing his name. Potts did not offer details about his condition.

According to Hennepin County Jail records, Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda was booked on probable cause of attempted homicide.

The man accused of the heinous act - identified as Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda, 24, - was later found hiding inside the mall's transit station. In a separate 2015 incident, Aranda threw a glass at an employee at a restaurant and was arrested and charged with trespassing, fifth-degree assault, obstructing the legal process and disorderly conduct, police said. I just can't imagine someone doing that to her!

A 5-year-old boy who was thrown from a third-floor balcony at the Mall of America near Minneapolis remains hospitalized with serious injuries, authorities said Saturday.

Aranda, who lives in the Bloomington area, has a police record, including several arrests and convictions stemming from incidents at the Mall of America.

Aranda was chased down inside the mall and was taken into custody.

Court records show the suspect was charged following two previous run-ins with police and security officers at the megamall. Aranda had smashed five computers and keyboards "beyond repair" after he read something on Facebook that infuriated him, the man told authorities. The woman refused, and Aranda allegedly threw a glass of water in her face and a glass of tea that struck her leg. Aranda was under a trespass notice at the time banning him from the mall until July 4, 2016.

Aranda asked the woman to buy him something while they sat outside the restaurant, waiting for it to open. Aranda followed her inside, sat at the table beside her and continued his campaign.
