Italy's Francesco Molinari, Australians Jason Day and Adam Scott, South African Luis Oosthuizen and first-round co-leader Brooks Koepka of the United States topped the leaderboard after the second round. More important, his power game seems ready-made for Augusta National, evident by Saturday's 8-under 64 that moved him to 11 under and into a tie for second with Tiger Woods.

It's the third straight major that Woods has contended at, after his 6th place finish at the British Open and 2nd at the US PGA; however all 14 of his previous major victories have come after he held at least a share of the 54-hole lead.

Woods put himself in position for a chance at a 15th major championship and first at the Masters since 2005, the year the red mock took center stage in the final round that featured his famous chip-in for birdie from behind the 16th green before he eventually won in a playoff.

The Australian who often struggles with a balky putter played nearly flawlessly, with two birdies and an eagle on the back nine.

"After three knee surgeries and four back surgeries, I'm great", Woods said. His worst putt of the day, ironically, led to a birdie.

The final group of Francesco Molinari, Tony Finau and Tiger Woods will tee off at 9.20am (1.20am Monday NZT), 20 minutes after CBS begins its live coverage of the tournament.

He almost holed a 4-iron on the par-5 eighth Saturday on his way to a record-tying 30 on the front nine.

Tiger Woods will wake up Sunday morning way before you do.

The 14-time major champion charged up the leaderboard Friday, but the roars heard around Augusta National turned into folks holding their breath for a moment on the 14th hole.

Moving day at the Masters has seen plenty of movement today, but fans want to see Tiger when he's competing for another major title.

That he would go on to birdie the hole was but one aspect of a wild second round at the Masters. But to lead wire-to-wire at East Lake, and to do that under tough conditions against the hottest players all year, that gave me a lot of confidence going into the season. Only one birdie (from Hideki Matsuyama), 27 bogeys and one double bogey resulted in a scoring average of 4.431. Rise and shine, make the coffee, do your own prep work by watching lesser golfers in threesomes go off split tees at 7:30 a.m. ET.

A thrilling day was in prospect, with Woods one of four men a solitary shot off the pace at six under.
