"From fundraising emails labeling @AOC a domestic terrorist to the constant questioning of @IlhanMN's loyalty to and love of country, the right-wing is actively inciting violence against young progressive women of color in Congress", organizers with the Women's March posted on Twitter.

The Washington Post first noted that Bush once referred to the terrorists as "the people who knocked these buildings down" in remarks at Ground Zero a few days after the attack.

"All Rep. Omar had to do was explain herself", Crenshaw said. "Why don't you go do something about that?"

That sparked an avalanche of outrage, many pointing to Crenshaw's service as a Navy SEAL in the war in Afghanistan as well as his sacrifice.

Ocasio-Cortez's office pointed McClatchy to a New York Daily News interview with a retired New York firefighter who survived 9/11 and told the newspaper that Crenshaw had snubbed him as he lobbied for renewing the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund.

Ocasio-Cortez said the NY Post's cover was "horrifying" and claimed that Omar has "done more for 9/11 families that the GOP". The fund, which helps first responders and others harmed in the 9/11 attacks, is up for renewal. Then-President Barack Obama vetoed the bill and the Republican-controlled House and Senate voted to overrule Obama's veto, the first override of a veto that happened during his administration.

No one was attacking Omar's 9/11 remarks because she was a Muslim, people were attacking her remarks because what she said trivialized the deadliest terrorist attack in world history.

Omar has called for the complete defunding of the Department of Homeland Security, which was created to protect the United States after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

In February, Omar apologized for anti-Semitic tweets in which she alleged AIPAC pays off politicians to be pro-Israel.
