'Star Wars' Episode IX 'Rise of Skywalker' sees evil emperor return

Star Wars Celebration takes place in Chicago this weekend, and to kick things off, we're getting a Star Wars: Episode IX panel at 9 a.m. PT / 12 p.m. ET, live streamed across the internet for all to see.

We'll see if that statement proves true when Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters nationwide on December 20th but in that room this morning, the air was filled with reverence for this epic saga that's changed lives and will likely continue to do so.

The first-look trailer also revealed that Emperor Palpatine is alive.

The gambler, playboy and original owner of the Millennium Falcon, Lando Calrissian, is back.

The trailer finally revealed the title of the film which has been referred to as Episode IX for a while now. Although no one cracked under pressure, Abrams did reveal some previously known details, like the fact that "The Rise of Skywalker" will pick up "some time" after the events of "The Last Jedi".

Abrams went on to say the film is in post-production as they prepared for the film's release on December 20. The Rise Of Skywalker is added. Indeed, both Rian Johnson, who made Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Game of Thrones showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff are working on separate new trilogies.
