The second Marine killed was 43-year-old Staff Sgt. Christopher K.A. Slutman, of Newark, Delaware, according to a statement from the Department of Defense. Slutman was a 15-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department who served in the reserves.

Hines completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in SC in 2007, the York Daily Record reported.
