"Though different versions of the app vary in structure, malicious code was initialised at application launch without the user's knowledge, and a number of timers were set up to gather and upload data periodically", said Adam Bauer, a senior security intelligence engineer at Lookout.

The revamped version of Snapchat is now available on Google Playstore.

To make sure that updates are running bug-free now and in the future, Snapchat is testing them on a larger number of Android-powered devices.

Launched 5 years ago, Snapchat is a popular AR Effects and messaging service used by Millions of people to make amusing photos and more. Apple has frequently highlighted how iOS apps have helped improve the life of end users, but it has never highlighted how the App Store has changed the life of developers.
