Update on measles in Mount Maunganui

Meanwhile, Auckland Regional Public Health Service said today it has been notified of three new measles cases, taking the number of confirmed cases in Auckland this year to 15.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed almost 100 more measles diagnoses since last week, pushing the 2019 case count closer to record levels less than halfway through the year.

Authorities are trying to determine possible exposure sites in Washtenaw County in southeastern MI. There are no public exposure sites for the Wayne County case.

Exposure locations are not yet available for the Washtenaw County case and will be provided as more information is learned at washtenaw.org/health.

Oakland and Wayne counties have been offering vaccine clinics on a regular basis since the outbreak started.

Measles is a serious, highly infectious viral illness. MI is among 19 states dealing with a measles outbreak. "After three to five days, a rash appears on the face and then moves down the body".

"If symptoms develop, residents are urged to call their doctor or emergency room before arriving so they can take precautions to prevent exposure to other individuals", state health officials said.
