According to Sony, a large majority of the "most-played PS4 games" tested support the feature. As of writing, PSN ID changes will officially go live later today on the PlayStation 4. For PlayStation Plus members, it will cost £3.99/€4.99 for each change after the first one.

Everyone's first PSN name change is free.

Fans have been clamouring for the chance to get a fresh online ID for years now, particularly if you're still using a name that you got bored of years ago.

For players who are anxious that their online friends might not be able to recognize them after the PSN ID change, Sony will allow players to display their old usernames together with the new one.

To change your PSN ID, you must either use a PS4 or your computer.

To aid your friends on PSN, your old ID may be displayed next to your new ID on your profile for 30 days.

There are some risks associated with changing your PlayStation ID, as not all games support the feature.

To change your online ID on the PlayStation 4, open the PS4's Settings menu and select "Account Management", then "Account Information", then "Profile", then finally "Online ID".

Select the Edit button that's next to your Online ID.
