The film was met by a furious reaction by the Jackson estate, which denied the allegations and lambasted the documentary as "an outrageous and pathetic attempt to exploit and cash in" on the superstar.

Culkin had the full support of Jackson's daughter Paris Jackson, who was backstage during the live podcast and heard the entire exchange. The Sun reports that Culkin and Weird Al Yankovich held a comedy gig in Los Angeles last night, where the subject of Michael Jackson was broached.

The 38-year-old actor was friends with the late King of Pop as a child and would regularly stay over at the singer's Neverland home and his friendship with Michael was discussed in Dan Reed's documentary Leaving Neverland, in which Wade Robson and James Safechuck claim they were sexually assaulted by the musician. Culkin also appeared in archival footage showing him turning up to court to defend the singer at his 2005 child molestation trial, in which Jackson was acquitted.

After the pair burst into giggles, Yankovic replied, "Um, mostly platonic".
