Chrome 73 finally supports dark mode on Mac

The feature is integrated with the dark mode in macOS Mojave so enabling dark mode at an OS level will switch Chrome to a dark theme as well.

If you don't want to wait, or if you're a Mac user who doesn't want to go all-in on dark mode just to change the color of Chrome, you can of course venture into the Chrome themes settings to pick a color of your very own.

Let's start with the downloads, an aspect that Chrome 73 proposes, so to speak, in a desktop style with a window at the bottom that opens at the start of the download, represented by an animated icon, a window that then remains there ready to be opened or not, as usual.

Sure, you could download "dark mode" themes from the Chrome store before, Chrome's native dark mode features the design sensibilities one would expect from Google.

Chrome's Dark Mode does look like the browser's Incognito Mode, which might make things a little confusing when you are using the private mode after having enabled the Dark Mode as there's only the Incognito badge differentiating the two browsing modes. The update also integrates early versions of a Skip Ad feature for PIP videos and the ability to quickly jump back to the video's tab or app. Chrome on Android will now show the "Lite" text in the URL bar for HTTP as well as HTTPS webpages to let users know when a webpage's optimised version is being displayed. In addition to this, the Chrome Lite Pages now work with secure websites apart from the regular ones.

Users can tap the indicator to see more information and to access an option to load the original version of the page, which would be the full version.

If you are already using Chrome, it will automatically update itself in the background.

Chrome 73.0.3683.75 is now available for download for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android. Support for features like Dark Mode on Windows and other changes will hopefully follow soon after, but Google hasn't given any specific timetable.
