Chargesheet filed against cricketer Mohammed Shami for dowry, sexual harassment

Mohammed Shami has been charged with non-bailable offences by the Kolkata Police under Indian Penal Code 498A and Indian Penal Code 354A for dowry harrassment and sexual harrassment, respectively. The court has directed Kolkata Police to issue notices to the two accused to be present in court.

The bitter spat between Shami and his estranged wife Hasin Jahan came out in open on March 7 past year after the latter posted screenshots of the Indian pacer's alleged affair on social media.

Jahan has also accused Shami of corruption. Shami responded by saying that the accusations leveled by Hasin against him were a part of a conspiracy to ruin his career. An internal investigation was conducted by BCCI on match-fixing accusations but Shami was given a clean chit. Shami has been given a Grade A contract (Rs 5 lakh) in the latest central contracts list of BCCI.

On March 8 a year ago, Kolkata police had registered an FIR against Shami, who, along with his family members were booked under section 498 A (Husband or relative of Husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 307 (attempt to murder), 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation), 328 (causing hurt by means of poison), 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of IPC.

She also accused Shami's family of domestic violence and on April 10, filed a domestic violence case against Shami and others in Kolkata's Alipore Court and also sought maintenance from her husband.

Shami, who recently became the fastest Indian bowler to reach 100 wickets in One Day Internationals, was India's highest wicket-taker in the ODI series against New Zealand with nine wickets in four matches.
