Wales moved one step closer to a Six Nations Grand Slam and extended a national record winning streak to 13 matches Saturday, beating Scotland 18-11, thanks to tries from Josh Adams and Jonathan Davies.

Darcy Graham's try in the 51st minute made it 15-11 but despite Scotland throwing everything at Wales - including wrecking ball Hamish Watson - Wales had their tremendous defence to thank for the win.

In the lead-up to this fixture, Gatland said his players had been distracted by talk of a proposed merger between the Ospreys and Scarlets, but Wales looked totally focused as they built a 15-6 lead in the opening 40 minutes.

"The competition is still open with England and Ireland thinking they will be in with a chance if we get knocked over".

Injuries to Tommy Seymour, Blair Kinghorn and Graham rubbed salt into their wounds and coach Gregor Townsend admitted he is still unsure whether star full-back Stuart Hogg will be back in time from a shoulder injury.

With a tricky trip to England coming up next weekend, Scotland could well end the campaign with just a solitary win to their name.

But his main frustration was the performance of French referee Pascal Gauzere, with Townsend questioning why he did not issue the visitors with a yellow card despite seeing them concede five penalties within their own 22.
