"As now scheduled, the March 29 spacewalk will be the first with only women", NASA spokeswoman Stephanie Schierholz told CNN in an emailed statement Wednesday.

Now, almost 35 years after Savitskaya's second journey, the first all-female spacewalk is planned for March 29, NASA announced on Wednesday.

Fewer than 11% of the more than 500 people who have been to space have been female, and spacewalk teams have either been all-male or male-female.

On March 29, if all goes according to plan, astronauts Anne McClain and Christina Koch will exit the International Space Station to conduct work outside the spacecraft-marking the first time in history that a spacewalk has been conducted by an all-female crew, reports Shaiann Frazier of NBC News.

It will be the second of three walks scheduled for Expedition 59's mission.

Expedition 59, which, according to Wikipedia, is scheduled to start on March 14, is the 59th journey to the International Space Station. "And, of course, assignments and schedules could always change".

Google Patches Zero-Day Flaw in Chrome Under Active Attacks
The flaw was uncovered by Clement Lecigne, a security engineer in Google's Threat Analysis Group. Google started rolling out the patch for Chrome on Windows , Mac, and Linux on Friday.

They will be supported by Canadian Space Agency flight controller Kristen Facciol, who will be serving as console at Nasa's Johnson Space Center in Houston. "In addition to the two female spacewalkers, the Lead Flight Director is Mary Lawrence, and Jackie Kagey (also a woman), is the lead EVA (spacewalk) flight controller".

"It definitely resonates with women around the agency that we're at this point", Nasa's Stephanie Schierholz said.

Both were members of NASA's 2013 class of astronauts, where four of the eight members were female, and traveled to the ISS over the a year ago as part of expedition 58 and 59, respectively.

The first all-female spacewalk is to take place later this month, 35 years after a woman first took part in one.

The 7-hour mission will reportedly be live-streamed on NASA's website at 6:30AM eastern time. Alexey Ovchinin and Flight Engineer Nick Hague.

The goal of the spacewalk is to upgrade batteries at the space station, which were delivered last summer. NASA says spacewalks are conducted for repairs, testing equipment and conducting experiments.
