Still Using Windows 7? Microsoft's Next Update Is Critical

Replacing the previous "My Office" app now available, the new tool looks to provide a more useful way for Windows 10 users to quickly find and access Office documents, apps and services.

Late past year, Microsoft said that it would update Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (Service Pack 1) this month with support for SHA-2.

Well, he would. It was, after all, flung out to Windows Insiders as a preview back in December and the feedback was that users found it handy for getting started with Office.

But if the app is not installed, it will open the free Office Online web apps instead.

According to Microsoft, the new Office app offers a simple experience that will help them get what they want. The only difference is that the online version is now ported to an app.

The good news is that it's available even if you don't have an Office 365 subscription, though you can be sure that there'll be plenty of nagging if you don't.

The app is created to bring the experience onto your PC and it's PWA, so it also works offline like a native app.

Activate Microsoft Search so users can use one search experience to find documents and people across the organization in addition to their own apps and documents.

Just like the previous build, this new release comes with gaming improvements, and Microsoft allows users to play State of Decay free as part of a testing program.

Functions aside, Office will also come with a bunch of tutorials, tips and tricks, and other helpful information for Microsoft's office solutions. After that date, if you don't have the requisite SHA-2 update installed, you'll no longer be able to receive Windows security updates.
