Little pleaded guilty to a Texas woman's death in January and has been convicted in the deaths of three women from California.

Little, 78, stunned investigators last year when he began confessing to nearly 100 killings, carried out over the span of about 35 years.

"We want to give these women their names back and their family some long-awaited answers".

The stunning confessions could make Little the most prolific serial killer in United States history if these cases are confirmed by law enforcement, Ector County District Attorney Bobby Bland told CNN in December.

Little has told investigators he considers himself an accomplished artist and promised previous year that he could render portraits of his victims from memory.

As would become routine, Little targeted marginalised and vulnerable women who were often involved in prostitution or addicted to drugs.

Samuel Little, a 78-year-old drifter, has confessed to 90 murders committed between 1970 and 2005, and law enforcement authorities have corroborated more than 40 of them so far.

Samuel Little, 78, sparked investigations into cold cases in several U.S. states after he began confessing to the crimes last May.

The FBI said he had a vivid memory for detail when it came to the women's faces and how he had killed them, but was less reliable on the dates of crimes. For instance, one teenage victim from Miami is sporting a blue headband while a victim from Texas has purple hair.

Holland was trained in cold cases and visited Little where he eventually gained his trust, Ector County District Attorney Bobby Bland told CNN.

The FBI urged anyone with information about the victims to call or email analysts at the bureau's Violent Criminal Apprehension Program at 800-634-4097.

"Over the course of that interview in May he went through city and state and gave Ranger Holland the number of people he killed in each place". He is in declining health and will likely stay in prison in Texas until he dies, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Little's first confession was about the 1994 murder of Denise Christie Brothers in Odessa, Texas.

Investigators have confirmed 34 of the confessed killings, authorities said in November.

In the other three cases - one from Prince George's County, Maryland, another from West Memphis, Arkansas, and the third from Pascagoula, Mississippi - police have matched one of Little's confessions to skeletal remains and corresponding case files.

No formal charges on any of the additional killings have yet been brought.

He had been arrested almost 100 times, yet served less than 10 years in prison before detectives tracked him down at a homeless shelter in Kentucky in 2012.
