Being that Cleveland already has a young running back who showed tons of upside last season, it didn't seem like they were in the market for another three-down back.

On Monday, the Browns, who seemed to finally emerge from years of gloom, doom and dysfunction by winning seven games behind rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield this past season, signed Hunt to a one-year contract.

Dorsey, who drafted Hunt during his time as Chiefs general manager, said he didn't consider putting a claim on Hunt at the time because he hadn't done enough fact-finding. Hunt was waived by the Chiefs after TMZ released video showing the running back involved in a physical altercation with a woman in Cleveland last February. From this, we learned that he was untruthful about his actions and did not seek help to correct his violent behaviors until after the video was released and he lost his job in the NFL. Now that he's on a team, Hunt will land on the Commissioner's Exempt List as the league decides what sort of suspension, if any, to hand to the running back following his incident.

"I talked to a lot of people during the course of our research, " the GM said. "Again, I believe in second chances".

Cleveland Browns News " Trust has to be earned, and that has to be earned with the Cleveland Browns organization and the community of Cleveland moving forward.

However, Dorsey said the team's diligence did not include speaking with the woman seen on the tape.

It will be important to track the transactions of both of these teams and it will be interesting to grade out which team pushes the Steelers harder leading up to next season. I've always believed that if a person wants to better themselves and be a better person, I'm willing to give them a chance.

"No, I think that's a situation, I think you deal with that down the road", Dorsey said. But the Bears can go cheaper with a draft pick and find a running back with skills to be a better fit in the offense.

Hunt released a statement saying he regretted his actions and vowed to change. Were it not for his off-field issues, Hunt would be a more attractive option than even Le'Veon Bell. Dorsey would be fired shortly thereafter and was gone before Hunt actually played in a game, but he has that initial relationship.

"I think every time you go through these very hard situations and these types of actions, you have to study everything from the person and then find out are they willing to be better people moving forward", Dorsey said. Hunt's words: "I have to earn my way back to the National Football League".

"I'm a work in progress as a person, but I'm committed to taking advantage of the support systems that I have in place to become the best and healthier version of myself", Hunt's statement read.

When Dorsey was asked at the press conference where the team stands on violence against women, he deferred to ownership and said, "I'm not going to be the spokesperson for the organization with regards to that".

The Browns are trusting Hunt can be that for them.
