Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipset will power your next flagship phone

The announcement was made during the company's Tech Summit in Hawaii, which a year ago saw the announcement of the Snapdragon 845.

Qualcomm's upcoming flagship mobile platform will carry a more conventional branding and not the 8150 branding as previously rumored. So what's the new chipset all about? The U.S.is only slightly behind South Korea in enabling 5G for consumers, as TechRadar reports that three South Korean operators launched their 5G networks for enterprise consumers in parts of major cities. The device will use the chipmaker's Snapdragon X50 5G NR modem and antenna modules with integrated RF transceiver, RF front-end and antenna elements.

AT&T has now confirmed that it will launch a 5G Samsung smartphone on its network in the first half of 2019, the company did not name the device, although there is a very good chance that it is a 5G version of the Samsung Galaxy S10. This is obviously power intensive and apparently, Samsung had to keep swapping the two devices over. There's a new dedicated vision processor that can process depth mapping at 60 fps, as well as capture 4K HDR video at 60fps.

AT&T will sell a 5G Samsung smartphone. For starters, artificial intelligence (AI) will play a big role with the Snapdragon 855, with its fourth-generation multi-core AI providing a 3x uplift in performance compared to the Snapdragon 845.

Lastly, the company announced the Qualcomm 3D Sonic Sensor-an under-display fingerprint sensor solution that uses ultrasonic waves, unlike optical under-display fingerprint sensors which use light.
