The agency has issued a special weather statement as a result of a possible winter storm arriving Tuesday. More than a foot of snow (30.5 cm) was recorded by Saturday morning in some areas, including on the Olympic Peninsula, in the nation's latest bout of winter weather.

A low pressure system is now brewing over the southern USA, which may intensify into a winter storm as it moves over Southern Ontario on Tuesday, the agency said. "It's too early to pin down snowfall rates, but they have the best chance to reach at least 1"/hour overnight and perhaps occasionally into Tuesday, though again the snow looks to lighten up some during the day.

"Expect significant travel impacts, especially during the Tuesday afternoon into evening commute", forecasters wrote.

Precipitation should ease up starting in the early hours of Wednesday morning, although it could linger into the Wednesday commute, especially north and west of Boston.

The precipitation is expected to turn back into snow by Tuesday night, as colder air settles over the city. Light snow on Wednesday is expected to bring another 2-4 cm to the region.
