The latest case is not believed to be linked to an outbreak of measles in the state of Washington, Hussain said.

According to the Washington Post, an estimated 700 people showed up to rally outside the State Capitol, "most of them opposed" to a proposed bill that would eliminate personal or philosophical exemptions to requirements families immunize their children against measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR). The B.C. Centre for Disease Control tracks child immunization and reports that 82.1 per cent of children aged seven had been immunized for measles in 2018, compared to 88.4 per cent in 2017 and 90.2 per cent in 2016.

The report comes as both Canada and the United States face another year of measles outbreaks such as one now underway in Washington State and OR, where support for anti-vaccination has been notable.

The agency said there have been large measles outbreaks reported across Europe which have affected many countries.
