Netflix rolls out 'Smart Downloads' feature for iOS

Netflix launched Smart Downloads on Android back in July of past year. Whether it is smart downloading or viewing a mobile preview, we realize the best part of Netflix is connecting with the stories you will love in an easier and more fun way. The feature does not work on cellular data, only via Wi-Fi, which will prevent the users from accidentally using a large chunk of their data. It automatically downloads the next episode of a show you have been watching offline, the next time you are on Wi-Fi. It has finally made the leap to Netflix for iOS.

NOTE: If there are no additional episodes to download in your series, the last watched episode will not be deleted.

Users also have the option to manually enable and disable Netflix's Smart Downloads for iOS. This feature obviously only applies to episodic shows, not movies.

Netflix claims that it wants users to spend less time managing their downloads and spend more time actually consuming content, something the Smart Downloads feature will help them accomplish.

Netflix says the feature is available on its Windows 10 app as well, though we aren't sure when exactly that launched.

If you've downloaded one or more episodes in a series, Smart Downloads will delete the episode you've just finished and automatically download the next episode in the series on Apple iPhones, iPads or iPod Touch. To do this, select the Menu icon and then "App Settings". This is probably why Netflix introduced the feature on Android first. At the time, however, the company said that iOS would also get the feature by the end of 2018. They've continued to add features that ensure the quality of life holds up for its user-base, and the latest application that offers ideal changes is now available on iOS devices. Some subscribers noticed a pop-up that asked them if they wish to "watch this scene again".

"The faster our members can get to the next episode of their favorite stories, the better".
