Auckland Police Detective Inspector Scott Beard said a 26-year-old man is being questioned in relation to Grace Millane's whereabouts.

DI Beard said police have released images of Ms Millane's watch and necklace and that her passport is also missing.

He was brought back here to Auckland Central Police Station and is now speaking to us in relation to the murder of Grace Millane.

"The issue here is Grace is still missing and we want to find her".

The announcement follows a review of CCTV footage, the forensic examination of a hotel where she was last seen on Saturday 1 December, and the discovery of a vehicle.

"Many of these calls have been from members of the public, offering accommodation and assistance to the Millane family".

"Grace's family have been advised of this development and they are devastated."

She failed to check in with family, which is very out of character for her, they say.

Grace Millane had been in New Zealand for about two weeks.

"At this point our enquiries have not led us to any further confirmed sightings of Grace, and the last known sighting is of her entering the Citylife Hotel", he said.

Grace's father today said: "Grace is a lovely, outgoing, fun-loving, family-orientated daughter".

He said: 'Just after 3pm this afternoon (Saturday) a 26-year-old man was located at a central Auckland address by police.

New Zealand Police have announced they believe missing British backpacker Grace Millane, 22, has been murdered.

The Essex woman had embarked on a year-long worldwide trip following her university graduation. "We still don't know where Grace is".

The last confirmed sighting of Grace is still 9.41pm Saturday night going into the CityLife Hotel, Beard said.

Grace Millane's belongings, including a necklace and a Baby-G watch.

They revealed yesterday that their investigations included questioning the man who was with Millane when she was last seen.

"I'm not going to speculate on how they met", he said.

He tearfully explained that his daughter has never been out of contact with her family for such a long period of time, usually contacting them on social media.

Before she vanished, she was staying at the Base Backpackers hostel in Auckland.

Ms Millane (pictured) arrived in New Zealand on November 20.

Beard wouldn't say whether police had seen footage of the man leaving CityLife Hotel or if he thought Millane was killed in the hotel, a large apartment-style complex.
