Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is a Nintendo Switch exclusive, coming 2019

One of the big rumours before The Game Awards started is that this was when Square Enix would finally reveal their long in-development Avengers game, especially as the Russo brothers, directors of Avengers: Infinity War, were known to be in attendance.

The third of these games is coming next year, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order.

Users will reportedly be able to take control of characters and go through some of the season's events, with surprises throughout. It's a retro-styled beat 'em up you can play in co-op, set after the events of the third season of the award-winning show.

Unlike the more recent Marvel games that seemed to be designed for mobile from the start, the Ultimate Alliance franchise is fondly remembered for its action-oriented gameplay, RPG elements, and, of course, the roster of characters from Marvel's treasury of spandex-clad heroes and villains. You'll also get to play or at least meet figures from other teams, including the X-Men and, for the first time, the Guardians of the Galaxy. Team Ninja is the developer and Nintendo is publishing it.

In addition to the series' traditional perspective, the new entry will let players select a dynamic, zoomed-in heroic view, allowing for a more immersive play style for single-player or multiplayer when using multiple systems.
