Kelly expected to resign soon, no longer on speaking terms with Trump

President Trump's Chief of Staff, John Kelly, is ready to resign from the White House, CNN reported.

It follows reports on Friday that Trump had stopped speaking to Kelly, the latest development in a relationship frayed over retired Marine general Kelly's struggles to bring order to the West Wing.

"He's been with me nearly two years now as you know between the two positions", he continued. But Trump's broader efforts to reshape his inner circle have been on hold, leading to a sense of near-paralysis in the building, with people unsure of what to do.

"Now is the best opportunity to be laser-focused on further building out the political infrastructure that will support victory for President Trump and the GOP in 2020", campaign manager Brad Parscale said in a statement. We'll be announcing who will be taking John's place.

Rumors of Kelly's departure had swirled for more than a year amid persistent reports of tensions between Trump and his chief of staff. But Ayers has also faced some resistance. But each time the two have decided to make amends, even as Kelly's influence has waned.

Kelly, who previously served as Department of Homeland Security secretary, was widely reported to have been considering leaving his post. Trump has chafed at Kelly's management style and resisted some of his moves to instill discipline in the West Wing and contain chaos.
