Eovaldi re-signing with Red Sox

Mark Feinsand reports the deal is worth a total of $67.5 million. While he did have a stretch in which he was inconsistent, it was his performance in the big games, particularly against the Yankees, that makes this re-signing a big one for Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowksi.

The 28-year-old right-hander posted a 3.33 ERA in 12 regular-season appearances (11 starts) after arriving from the Tampa Bay Rays in July. The flamethrowing righty was particularly impressive with the Red Sox, for whom he pitched to a 3.33 ERA in 54 innings to close out the season before dazzling with a 1.61 ERA in 22 1/3 postseason frames. "His performance in the postseason was outstanding, both as a starting pitcher and as a reliever".

Boston's starting rotation looks to be set after locking-up Eovaldi long-term, but questions remain in the bullpen. The hard-throwing righty kept the NY bats at bay, allowing just one run over seven innings in a series-changing 17-1 win in Game 3 of the ALDS.

Boston earlier reached a $6.25 million, one-year contract with first baseman Steve Pearce, the World Series MVP. He became a free agent after the World Series.
