Derek Fisher is hired as coach of the Sparks

Back in 2016, the New York Knicks fired former National Basketball Association player Derek Fisher following a 23-31 start to the season after going 17-65 in Fisher's first season in 2014-15.

OFFICIAL: Brian Agler has resigned as Los Angeles Sparks head coach.

Fisher, 44, has not coached at any level since the 2015-16 National Basketball Association season.

The Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA have hired Derek Fisher as head coach, sources told ESPN.

The suit says the Woloshins rented the house previous year after their home was damaged by Hurricane Irma, agreeing to pay $30,000 a month.

Fisher takes over a talented team led by two-time MVP Candace Parker.

Agler guided LA to the 2016 WNBA title and had an 85-51 record with the Sparks in four seasons. "I look forward to working with someone with championship pedigree and who has a track record of strong leadership".

Fisher becomes the 12 head coach in Sparks franchise history.

But that was back in 2016, and it's been almost three years since Fisher has gotten the chance to coach.

An introductory press conference will be held Friday, Dec. 7, with more details to come.

Fisher's tenure as a head coach in the National Basketball Association did not go well, posting a 40-96 record in a bit more than a season and a half.
