Valve's popular shooter is now Free-to-Play and has added its own take on the battle royale genre with the new Danger Zone mode. Yes, you read that right! So yeah, while it does not support 100 players, Danger Zone is basically a mini-battle royale mode.

Since CS:GO has also gone free-to-play with the addition of this mode, you're proabably wondering; what happens to those who have bought the game? Given this smaller player count, Danger Zone matches are also much shorter than those in other battle royale games, typically lasting around 10 minutes by Valve's estimate.

In our review of CS:GO back in 2012, we called the game "Great" calling it a "top-tier tactics game that will probably share the long-tailed legacy of its predecessors". Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the latest game to implement Battle Royale. Seemingly out of nowhere Valve have announced that the game is free for everyone on Steam, with previous owners being upgraded to "Prime" account status and awarded a "commemorative Loyalty Badge".

The change to free-to-play is pretty straightforward.

If queuing as a solo player, it will be a 16 player match. Cash can be found in the world, and also gained by completing tasks such as hostage rescue.

Yet, while this new Montana may look more picturesque than ever, it's still just as risky to roam as it was in Far Cry 5 . Set in the same location of Hope County , Montana, but years after FC5, you'll meet and recruit a new series of allies.

Obsidian’s The Outer Worlds is an amazing-looking space-based Fallout game
It also seems to feature companions and first-person shooter combat that again doesn't seem all that dissimilar to Fallout . This game is called The Outer Worlds and the team has released its debut gameplay trailer.

Valve has chose to allow gamers to play solo, in duos, or on teams of three. CS:GO does have its exclusively first-person perspective going for it, at least.

The mode itself is called Danger Zone, and comes with Solo, Duo and Trio modes.

While Danger Zone's map looks large by Counter-Strike standards, it's a closer, meaner place than other battle royales.

Long-term players will be happy to learn that skins carry over from the base game to Danger Zone, and there are seventeen new seasonal skins up for grabs. The Prime status upgrade - matching you with other Prime players and providing extra cosmetic rewards - costs £11.99/€13.25/$14.99.
