O2 has 25 million customers, and supplies network coverage to Sky, Tesco, Giffgaff and Lycamobile, leaving a total of 32 million that use its data.

The Transport for London's electronic timetable service at bus stops relies on the O2 network, so this service is also down.

The company is blaming software issues at one of its suppliers for the problems.

However, some users are reporting that they're also unable to make voice calls or send text messages, so the full scope of the problem is unclear at present.

However, many people reported difficulties in accessing the service status page itself.

O2 have assured customers that they are working as hard as possible to get the networks up and running as soon as possible.
