O2 network outage hits Herefordshire

Work is now ongoing to fix the fault and customers are being encouraged to use wi-fi where possible.

O2 customers across Wrexham have been affected by a service outage this morning - however signal and 4G services for some have returned to normal.

Thousands of customers are believed to have been affected in the data blackout, which is also affecting customers of other mobile providers who use O2's service.

They wrote on Twitter: "We are aware our customers are unable to use data this morning".

The service status page of the O2 website added that "voice calls are working OK" and apologised for any inconvenience caused.

Outages were reported across the United Kingdom, including Manchester, London and Exeter.

O2 has 25 million customers, and supplies network coverage to Sky, Tesco, Giffgaff and Lycamobile, leaving a total of 32 million that use its data.

The Transport for London's electronic timetable service at bus stops relies on the O2 network, so this service is also down.

The company is blaming software issues at one of its suppliers for the problems.

However, some users are reporting that they're also unable to make voice calls or send text messages, so the full scope of the problem is unclear at present.

However, many people reported difficulties in accessing the service status page itself.

O2 have assured customers that they are working as hard as possible to get the networks up and running as soon as possible.
