Skype calls are finally available on Alexa-enabled devices

When this happens, your Alexa device will use your local area network or Wi-Fi to send a message to your device to power it on.

Voice and video calls aren't new for Alexa. Meanwhile, Facebook has begun selling its Portal device, which does video-calling and very little else, making the arrival of Skype a major spoiler.

It's not just Microsoft, of course. On the Echo Show, you'll be able to make video calls as well. With support for 4K, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and all the streaming services you know and love, the Fire TV Stick 4K is worth plugging into the back of any UHD TV in your home. Now, per Engadget, Microsoft seems to be encouraging customers to just buy Alexa-powered tech like the recently released Echo Dot and regular Echo and use Cortana through it. Microsoft is offering 100 free minutes for each of the first two months after linking Skype with Alexa. Alexa can now connect to your Skype account, allowing you to use Alexa as a voice controller for Skype. There was just one problem - it wasn't available at launch. Skype can be activated through the Amazon Alexa app, through the Communications tab within Settings.

Per Engadget, Twitter user Walking Cat and others noticed that both devices appear to be listed for sale in Microsoft's online and retail locations.
