If there's one thing Android users love, it's the notch. Apple, Google, LG, Nokia, and many others have fully embraced the space saving and visually contentious screen notch. Up until now, though, we haven't seen dual notches.

The IGZO display of the Aquos R2 Compact supports FHD+ resolution. They still have Android flip phones over there, after all. SoftBank will be offering the Aquos R2 Compact there, in Smoky Green, Deep White, and Pure Black, come January 2019.

“Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didnt stop to think if they should.” No, this isnt about dinosaurs but something equally unnatural – the Sharp Aquos R2 compact, officially the worlds first phone with two notches. The waterdrop notch is something that is becoming increasingly popular on phones such as the OnePlus 6T, Huawei Mate 20, and various OPPO and Vivo phones. Why does it exist? The top notch is a smaller teardrop style notch which contains the front facing 8MP camera, while the larger notch at the bottom folds around a fingerprint sensor.

People can access their data online at any time and can adjust how it may be viewed by health professionals and people they trust. The opt-out period for the program (which began in July) was initially extended by a month, pushing it out to this week.

We will leave it to readers to see if they find the design of the Sharp Aquos R2 Compact aesthetically pleasing. Even more confusing is that both notches aren't even the same.

Sharp says that, while the Aquos R2 Compact does have face authentication, it still felt it needed to make sure there was a fingerprint sensor too.

Internally the phone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of on-board storage and is powered by a 2,500mAh battery. That's the approach Sharp is taking with its latest smartphone, the Aquos R2 Compact. This should improve UI smoothness, and the effect also will be felt on games which support a 120Hz refresh rate. The fingerprint button also works as an application switcher. It has a notch at the top and at the bottom. If the design makes you look the other way, don't worry, chances are you'll never lay your eyes on one in the flesh, as its release will be limited to Japan and possibly other close-by countries. Compared to the predecessor phone that featured a very thick chin, the R2 Aquos has a thin lower bezel and a second notch to house the home button.
