The Football Association has sold more than 20,000 tickets for England's friendly against the United States since former captain Wayne Rooney's one-off worldwide comeback was confirmed, an FA spokeswoman said on Tuesday.

The D.C. United forward will win his 120th England cap on Thursday after Gareth Southgate sanctioned an appearance in the friendly with the United States at Wembley, two years after announcing his worldwide retirement.

"There were a few months when things were going really badly and I did not really want to go and do things out of the house", he said after he return to the England set-up.

"That gets to you and makes you feel guilty and want to make sure it does not happen again".

A spot at the World Cup would have likely been on the cards for the former Manchester United youngster - but a loss of form in a struggling Everton side put pay to his hopes of making it to Russian Federation.

Everton defender Michael Keane says last season's hard campaign left him reluctant to leave the house.

There is one more opportunity for Rooney to make a name for himself on home soil, but he claims he isn't interested in scoring one last time.

"My form has been good in the States and if I got called up because of that then it would be a different situation, but this will be my last game".

Jones helps Packers run away for 31-12 win over Dolphins
After a gain of 12 yards to the 10, he exploded through a big hole and into the end zone for a 21-12 lead at 9:33 of the third. Jason Sanders tied a Dolphins franchise rookie record with four field goals, but Miami (5-5) couldn't find the end zone.

"I made the decision to go the States and when I make a decision I tend to stick with it".

"And its important to me to give my full commitment to DC".

He was also singled out as an under-performer after a big money move from Burnley last summer and, after working to get back to his best, he explained how hard things became at times.

The former captain could only watch on as a supporter as England reached the World Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1990 in the summer.

Now 33, Rooney concedes that the pressure to succeed for England meant playing for his country was not always enjoyable - something he does not expect to be the case this week.

"Speaking to the FA, we felt it was right, this was the way the FA wanted to move forward". It affects your performance because you play your best football and put in your best performances when you're enjoying playing. I think everyone in camp is really happy for him and hopefully he gets the send-off he deserves.

"He's not only given them experience but belief they can do well and be successful for their country".

"I learned a lot about myself".
