The Panthers are off to a 5-2 start.

Cam Newton completed 19 of 25 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns, Christian McCaffrey racked up 157 yards from scrimmage and scored twice and the Carolina Panthers built an early lead and held on to beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 42-28 for their 10th straight home win Sunday.

The Panthers didn't get much of a boost from their win over the Buccaneers, at least in USA TODAY's weekly National Football League power rankings.

Fitzpatrick couldn't get much going from either of his two top receivers as a courtesy of Jackson and Bradberry's efforts. "I thought our guys rushed well for the most part but we had a little bit of a lull, which got a little bit hairy there for a little bit".

B Offensive line: This was a tough test for Carolina's line, and they struggled in the second half to contain Tampa Bay's pressure. Since resuming as the starter, Winston has been less than impressive and he reached a new low as he was benched after throwing his fourth interception of the game last week against the Bengals.

But Winston may not serve as the backup for the rest of the season.

The Bucs looked better coming out for the second half but by then it was way too late as the Bucs were already down 35-14. Shoddy defense has been a recurring theme, even in the games the Bucs have won. Fitzpatrick threw two interceptions, including one in the first quarter to Eric Reid that led to Carolina's first touchdown.

And when Fitzpatrick entered last week's game in the fourth quarter, he hit Evans for a 72-yard touchdown reception while leading the Bucs back from a 18-point deficit. Turnovers have become a way of life for Winston, who has now thrown thirteen interceptions over a five-game stretch dating back to last season. It's not on the coaches. "When you play young guys, they are going to make mistakes". "On those five straight drives where they scored, on three of those drives we put them in frightful field position with an interception, two sacks, a punt return and a fake punt".

Fitzpatrick had no fewer than two receivers open on the play.

"We know we have the talent, it's just we can't keep digging ourselves in these holes, especially on the road", Fitzpatrick said.

"He's a veteran, and he knows how to bounce back and handle adversity", Humphries said. "We're just not a very consistent team and not a consistent offense right now".
