This time, the shooting was at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, California, at another country music event. "I don't sit in a room with my back to the door.

There is blood everywhere", Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean told reporters.

Long was in the Marine Corps from 2008 to 2013, reaching the rank of corporal and serving as a machine gunner in Afghanistan, and the sheriff said he may have suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Law enforcement officials said 10 to 15 people went to hospitals with injuries, including at least one with gunshot wounds.

"Nothing has led me to believe or the Federal Bureau of Investigation there is a terrorism link here".

Kelly said Borderline had become a safe haven for dozens of Vegas survivors: "It is our home". He was deployed to Afghanistan from November 16, 2010 to June 14, 2011, the Marine Corps said.

"He had ideal form", bar patron Teylor Whittler told Fox News. "It looked like he knew what he was doing".

In April, a neighbor called authorities to report loud noises coming from the house that Long shared with his mother in a Thousand Oaks neighborhood of well-manicured lawns and homes.

Dean said Long was known to officers through a minor traffic collision and was a victim of a battery incident at a different bar.

Authorities so far had no indication of a motive, or of any connection to terrorism.

He said he has no doubt Helus' tactics at the scene "were sound when he went in". My parents let me go here. "He had some kind of issues". Earlier he had described it as "a horrific scene in there".

They found Long "somewhat irate, acting a little irrationally", Dean said.

"We will be sure to paint a picture of the state of mind of the subject and do our best to identify a motivation", Delacourt said, adding that the FBI would investigate any possible "radicalization" or links to militant groups.

The police called in a team of mental health specialists who decided that Long did not qualify to be involuntarily detained for mental health evaluation under state law. Long used an extended magazine for the weapon, Dean said.

Knapp said, "It took a couple of seconds for people to realize what was going on and once that happened it was just utter chaos".

Dean told reporters Thursday, "I've learned it doesn't matter what community you're in...." But as the two made their way inside, Helus was shot several times.

Dean said the shooter reportedly shot at employees and security before turning on the crowd.

"I believe that's the [sheriff's sergeant] that lost his life", Dominguez said.

He said he and others smashed their way out of the bar onto a balcony and then jumped down to safety.

The dead include a sheriff's deputy who rushed into the bar in response to the shooting.

Wednesday night's shooting came less than two weeks after a self-proclaimed anti-Semite was charged with killing 11 people in a Pittsburgh synagogue.

"We didn't take it seriously at first. because it sounded like firecrackers and everyone just dropped down to the floor". The bodies of the other victims killed were found at the scene.
