There's a fix for the Windows 10 file association problem coming - slowly

In an updated advisory, Microsoft writes under the Windows 10 known issues:After installing this update, some users can not set Win32 program defaults for certain app and file type combinations using the Open with... command or Settings Apps Default apps. Thing is, going to the Store apparently has no effect. The troubleshooting tool goes on to say that users have to install Windows 10 Home in order to use the digital license for it. They are reporting that the Activation status of their Windows 10 changed from Activated to Not activated. However, several Insiders have also reported of similar deactivations indicating that this could be a problem at Microsoft's end. This issue seems to affect those running even earlier Windows 10 versions as well.

In some good news though, the Windows 10 activation problem seems to have been fixed.

Microsoft is aware of this situation and has released a statement explaining the issue.

The problems come as a result of hardware manufacturers building PCs on pre-release builds of 1809, the Windows 10 October 2018 Update, but are now being forced to release them with 1803, the current build of Windows 10, installed after that update was postponed.
