Chandler became a free agent after receiving a buyout from the Phoenix Suns and was free to sign with any team after clearing waivers.

Tyson Chandler - the veteran big man who just reached a buyout agreement with Phoenix - had a solid debut for the Lakers, grabbing 9 rebound, including two huge offensive boards in the closing seconds.

In a video to Lakers fans, Chandler expressed his excitement to play for L.A.

A native of Los Angeles, Chandler is considered one of the strong, veteran leaders in the league - a welcome addition to a largely youthful Lakers locker room.

"Having observed our roster for the first 10 games of this young season, one of the areas that Earvin and I discussed with Luke that we desired to upgrade is interior defense and rebounding", Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said.

Josh Hart also knocked in 15 of his 21 points from three-point range and Brandon Ingram collected 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the Lakers, who picked up their third straight win for a 5-6 record.

The new contract for Chandler will pay him $2,109,867, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks, with the Lakers incurring a cap hit of $1,333,140. He won a championship ring with Dallas in 2011, and he was the NBA's defensive player of the year with NY in 2012 before earning an All-Star selection in 2013.

During a bench role with the Suns this year, Chandler averaged 3.7 points per game in 12.7 minutes.
