A criminal investigation has been launched following the discovery of the group - which included 15 children as young as 12 - hidden behind crates of sparkling water, reports the BBC.

The group were found concealed in a lorry which had stopped at Newhaven port, pictured. Identified as Andrut Duma, 29, he was made to appear before the magistrates on Saturday, 2 November, on charges of immigration offences and was remanded to police custody till 26 November, when a hearing at Lewes Crown Court will take place.

Seventeen of the group initially claimed to be aged 12 to 17, with 11 confirmed at the time to be minors when Border Force officers found them.

The children, though intercepted from a ice-cold lorry, did not require any immediate medical treatment.

It also said that an 18-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman have been deported to Vietnam, and the remaining four adults are being held at a detention center.
