Netflix announce new Irish animated film entitled My Father's Dragon

The lineup includes both feature films and original series suited for kids and families.

Several big animation talents are coming to Netflix, the company announced as it unveiled a slate of animated series and films today.

Rounding out the new series slate is Maya and the Three (pictured), which is set against a mythical Mesoamerican-inspired backdrop where a story unfolds about a warrior princess on a quest to find a trio of fighters to help save the world of men and gods.

The streaming giant has also greenlit a limited series called Maya and the Three from Jorge Gutierrez (The Book of Life) who will direct some of the series' nine episodes and co-write the others. It is co-written and co-executive produced by Silvia Olivas (Elena of Avalor).

There's also My Father's Dragon, which will be a 2D animated movie from Nora Twomey, who previously made the Oscar-nominated animated film The Secret Of Kells.

Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn of Mockingbird Pictures produce along with Paul Young of Cartoon Saloon and Tomm Moore. Alan Moloney and Ruth Coady of Dublin-based banner Parallel Films will serve as executive producers alongside Cartoon Saloon's Gerry Shirren. Cory Carson, are geared towards preschool-aged kids.

Padding out its feature film pipeline, Netflix has partnered with Vancouver's BRON Animation on The Willoughbys, a CGI-animated pic now in production from writer/director Kris Pearn (Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2). "We embrace all kinds of creators so we can tell unique and diverse stories that resonate with each and every Netflix family", said Melissa Cobb, Vice President of Kids and Family at Netflix.

Most recently, we've seen the incredible documentary, entitled The 34th, added to the Netflix roster.
