Substitute Marcus Rashford helped Manchester United make an incredible comeback on Saturday against Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium.

Wilson was denied by David De Gea and Junior Stanislas's shot deflected wide before United finally cracked after failing to deal with the resulting corner.

Instead, they went into the break on level terms after Anthony Martial's 35th minute strike cancelled out an early opener from Bournemouth forward Callum Wilson.

There is significant encouragement in that, as well as Anthony Martial's fifth goal in five games to equalise and the composure of Marcus Rashford's late victor.

"The second half was exactly the opposite".

That's the opinion of ESPN pundit Craig Burley, who has questioned whether or not the Belgian global will be able to walk back into the side when Jose Mourinho believes he's been able to regroup and get his confidence back.

In addition, Martial's interplay with Shaw was impressive, at times, especially in the final phase of the game as United pinned down Bournemouth in their own half. Indeed, the Red Devils showed excellent character following a brisk start from Bournemouth in the first half, which took them by surprise. Nathan Ake and Ryan Fraser were standouts for the home side, but everything United did well came down the left side through Martial.

"I love the song "attack, attack, attack", but when you lose the ball you have to have stability, and we did not have it against a good team".

We'll have to wait and see how the players progress over the next 48 hours but it will be a huge boost to United if Costa, Matuidi, Mandzukic, Chiellini or Bernardeschi miss the game on Wednesday night. "My coaches said it was the best warm-up of the season", Mourinho said.

Burley was asked if Lukaku's time at United was coming to an end.

Things did improve for the visitors in the second half significantly, partly due to the additions of Ander Herrera and Marcus Rashford from the bench, with the latter atoning for an earlier miss and score what proved to be the victor. It doesn't matter how many minutes until the end of the game, we have the feeling of anything can happen and, even missing chances like we did in the second half, chance after chance after chance, they keep going until the end. Fred was also at times found ball watching and was not convincing going forward.

Mourinho has spent more than £60 million on centre-backs since taking over in 2016 but Smalling was still trusted to play almost 50 games last season and the 28-year-old has been a regular in the team again this term.

Mourinho had expressed his confidence before this game that United's position in the Premier League table would look very different heading into the second half of the season.

Nemanja Matic is one of Mourinho's most trusted on-field lieutenants but the Serbia midfielder struggled to cope with Bournemouth's inventive passing and movement.
