The AR Murugadoss film, which hit screens on November 6, on its opening day, received mixed response from movie buffs and critics. Vijay's Sarkar is heavily political in nature and the film has taken several digs at the ruling party. "His previous Mersal also did so but in four or five days".

The reports doing the rounds suggest that Sarkar has created a new record in terms of opening day collection. The film had 2018's biggest opening.

Vijay's Sarkar, which released on November 7 has made the ruling dispensations see red. The film released in 800 theatres in the state and close to 3000 worldwide.

Sarkar had previously run into trouble with writer Varun Rajendran who alleged that the story of the film was copied from his work Sengol.

Raju, who's minister of information, asked the makers to remove the controversial scenes or face action.

Sarkar, released in over 3000 screens around the world, has earned a gross collection of approximately $145,000 just from the premiere shows in the USA and the number, after the first day is expected to only go up.
