Bryce Harper rejected Nationals' 'aggressive offer'

The Yankees are certainly known for making big splashes in the free agent market, so they've always been tentatively mentioned as a possible destination for Harper if he does decide to leave Washington DC.

The Nationals star had an opportunity to sign a 10-year mega contract worth approximately $300 million with the team in late September, but rejected the club's offer, according to multiple reports. Bryce Harper is arguably the best player on the market.

Boras represents Harper and not Machado, and you can probably guess which one he thinks is the true. Washington's "aggressive" and "historic" offer would have been the biggest free agent deal by total money paid in the history of the four major sports, but is still expected to be less than the $400 million that some have speculated that Harper's agent, Scott Boras, will begin asking for. Nightengale says that Harper is seeking a 13-year deal that tops the average annual value of $34.42 million that Zack Greinke now has in his deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks. National League Rookie of the Year candidate Juan Soto, Adam Eaton and Victor Robles could start on Opening Day for Washington. For those of you without a math degree, $35 million per year over a 13-year period would be $455 million.

"I'm comfortable with the alternative (to Harper re-signing)", Rizzo added.

Sorry Liverpool slump to defeat at Red Star
It's still in our hands and if we win our next two games we go through, but it was a great opportunity missed for us. We had moments, we had kind of nearly-chances, the biggest in the last two three minutes and before that not enough.

Scientists push back against Harvard 'alien spacecraft' theory
In December 2017 it was announced the astronomers were going to scan Oumuamua for signs of alien life. Oumuamua, Hawaiian for "messenger" or "scout", was first viewed by telescopes in October 2017.

Driver charged with killing two children and unborn baby 'kills herself'
She won for best featured actress in a musical in 2015 and had been due to play the same role in London's West End this summer. Her vehicle drove forward, killing Ruthie Ann Blumenstein's 4-year-old daughter and the 1-year-old son of another parent.

Given Harper's history with the Nationals, he seems unlikely to make a deal elsewhere without first circling back.

Boras did not counter, but word is the Nationals would go higher for a reasonable offer - though how much higher remains to be seen. Even though Harper is still only 26, a 14-year deal with an average annual value of $30 million per season felt a bit excessive.

Zack Greinke ($US34 million), David Price ($US31 million) and Clayton Kershaw ($US31 million) all got more. But no position player has ever earned an average annual value of more than $US27.5 million (Alex Rodriguez and Yoenis Cespedes). It was not enough.
