Gillum had pulled ahead in polling in the final few weeks of the election as Ron DeSantis cozied up to President Donald Trump and his far-right policies. "On Election Day, it's the voice of the people that rules".

Now in another tweet, the President has congratulated Governor Ron DeSantis for being elected Florida Governor. "All the way along this path", Gillum said.

Had Gillum won, he would have been the first black governor of Florida.

"I think if Republicans vote and vote in big numbers on Tuesday, we will win all of these races", he said at a rally outside the Freedom Pharmacy on the east side of Orlando.

Grammy-winning singer Rihanna is all in for Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum receiving the last-minute support needed to help him become Florida governor.

Gillum told supporters in Wakulla that Tuesday is a choice between the "Trumpizing of America" and working together. Gillum called himself "the most unapologetically progressive" candidate in the five-candidate Democratic field and staked out some positions beyond the reach of state government, such as his call for Trump's impeachment or his endorsement of Sanders' "Medicare for all" plan. Those issues, which were already bubbling up throughout the primary, were escalated by DeSantis when he went on Fox News a day after becoming the nominee to warn Florida voters not to "monkey this up" by electing Gillum.

Although DeSantis heavily emphasized his support of Trump before the primary, he scrubbed his campaign website of most Trump references and toned down his association with the president through most of the general election.

While it's no surprise that in MSNBC's hypothetical world the Democrat wins every time, polls for Florida's gubernatorial race have been trending in Gillum's direction.

In one of the most memorable lines in the debates, Gillum stopped short of calling DeSantis a racist but said "racists believe he is a racist".
