Dai Young conceded Christian Wade would leave a huge hole in Wasps' squad should he depart to try and forge a career in the NFL.

The 27-year-old winger has 82 Premiership tries to his name, placing him third on the all time list, but is reportedly the latest rugby union player to attempt to make the transition to NFL.

Wade is likely to join the NFL's global player pathway program in January after persuading Wasps to release him from the remainder of the final year of his contract.

Despite his consistent try-scoring form in the Premiership, Wade has been continually overlooked by England head coach Eddie Jones and has not been given the opportunity to add to his solitary full Test appearance. Alex Gray, the former England Sevens player, is with the Atlanta Falcons while Christian Scotland-Williamson is on the practice squad at the Pittsburgh Steelers.

During a holiday to America in June, Wade posted a video of himself on Instagram doing a NFL-style fitness workout, which he signed off with the hashtag #OnlyTheBeginning.

By all accounts, the move seems to be a done deal but which franchise he is set to join and in what type of capacity remains unclear.

The NFL's United Kingdom office declined to comment on the story when contacted by ESPN Friday morning.
