KYLE LAFFERTY: Rangers 'understand' IFA call

Kyle Lafferty will miss this weekend's clash with Hamilton.

Windsor Park chiefs are upset with Lafferty after he pulled out of the squad for the Nations League matches with Austria and Bosnia with an Achilles injury.

But they did not succeed and manager Steven Gerrard will now have to send out his side without the frontman.

Northern Ireland have invoked a Federation Internationale de Football Association five-day rule which stops Lafferty turning out for Rangers at the weekend and Ferguson admits the situation is disappointing for all concerned.

"Talks have been held among all parties and Rangers understands the position of the Irish FA", the Ibrox club said.

'International football is a choice and at this moment in time Kyle Lafferty has chosen to make himself unavailable. That was precisely the point; Lafferty withdrawing via a phone-call to O'Neill just hours before he was due to report for duty along with his worldwide team-mates.

Former Real Madrid midfielder Essien fears for Lopetegui job
Real Madrid's torrid run of form continues with Levante recording a 2-1 victory at the Bernabeu on Saturday afternoon. VAR proved their undoing again, ruling Marco Asensio's follow-up offside after Casemiro headed against the crossbar.

The Rangers striker was the main talking point of last weekend's worldwide window, even though he wasn't in Northern Ireland's squad.

While Lafferty blamed the move on a long-standing Achilles complaint, O'Neill was left furious.

The Irish FA released a statement which confirmed it will block Lafferty's participation in the Ladbrokes Premiership match against Accies.

Under world governing body Fifa's rules, players who withdraw injured from worldwide duty can be prevented from playing for their club for a further five days after the end of the global window.

'This states that "the player is not entitled to play for the club with which he is registered during the period for which he has been released or should have been released pursuant to the provisions of this annexe".
