Google Pixel 3XL, Pixel 3, Google Pixel Slate & Home Hub Officially Unveiled. They look like nice devices, but Google's pricing is getting a little out of hand.

Amazon win out on size factor, but the smart display is for your home, and knowing what fits best with your other furnishings or color schemes may well be a deciding factor.

Another smart speaker, but with a display built right in just like the Echo Show, the Home Hub has a 7-inch touchscreen although no camera is included. Employing custom fabrics, the company has offered Home Hub in four colour options. Unlike those speakers, the Hub has a display to show you useful information. And in an effort to protect you from you, Google has also added Digital Wellbeing to monitor and limit your device and app usage. Avoiding the temptation to load the back of the phone up with cameras, the Pixel 3 sticks to one camera on the rear that promises to be more potent than the last.

Where Google has made a hardware change is on the front camera, or cameras. The natural-sounding robot-assistant by Google, complete with "umms" and "ahhs" amidst conversations, wowed some observers, but left others fretting over the ethics of how the human-seeming software might be used.

For instance, the camera's features for better shots will take advantage of software on the device itself, so that nothing gets sent to Google's servers - unless you enable a backup feature with Google Photos.

Pixel 3 launch: Google to unveil iPhone challenger and smart home hub
You see, Google wants this to be a product you place on your nightstand - or some place like that - and still feed comfortable. With the addition of a display on the Google Home and a few excellent features, it's a good bet that this will be the one.

After weeks of leaks, Google today took to stage in NY to share information about what was already leaked into oblivion, but you've got to give the company props for turning up at least. The firm is also expected to launch a new tablet computer - the Pixel Slate. Processing the call details on-device means these experiences are fast, private to you, and use up less battery. It runs Chrome OS with an emphasis on the ever-evolving tablet UI already available on convertible Chromebooks. Starting at $599, the Pixel Slate will go on sale later this year with the Slate Keyboard costing $199.

Google Pixel Slate could also come with USB-C connectivity and a 3000x2000 resolution screen. At the other end of the spectrum is the Core i7 version with 16GB of RAM and 256GB SSD - that's $1,599/£1,549. It will also warn you if someone blinked or if the shot is otherwise poor. Across all SKUs, the keyboard case is a $150 add-on. This device will launch in a few weeks, but you can join a waitlist on the Google Store. Nevertheless, the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are now official. There were rumors of a secret third phone, but of course, that was nonsense.

After all the leaks, the Pixel 3 and 3 XL are ... exactly like the leaks. Both phones have high-end specs including a Snapdragon 845, 4GB of RAM, and 64 or 128GB of storage.

Both the front and back of the Slate get 8MP cameras - a wide angle lens is provided for video chat and improved low light performance. Once active, instead of personally calling restaurants that don't have an online reservation system, Google Assistant can make the calls for users. The Pixel 3 XL's 2880 x 1440 OLED features a large bezel at the bottom, and notch that could be described as "chunky". And the Pixel, as Google's marquee Android smartphone, is competing with a number of flagship devices crowding the market. Just know that you can also bring an unlocked Pixel to Verizon and have it work identically to one purchased from the carrier. That's behind the new glass design and when paired with the new Pixel Stand - which is actually pretty slick - you have a great wireless charging experience.
